For drivers under 18 years old:
Must hold a Level 1 learner’s license for at least 6 months prior to road test
Log 50 hours of supervised driving with a licensed adult over 21 (10 hours at night). Use the Michigan Supervised Driving Log.
Drivers can take the road test early, but will not be eligible to obtain a license until 16 years of age.

What is Segment 2 Driver Training?
Segment 2 is a 6-hour classroom course required for teens under 18 to get their Level 2 License. This 6-hour course focuses on risk awareness and how to avoid dangerous driving behaviors such as distractions, alcohol and drugs, drowsiness and emotions.
At All Star Driver Education, our main priority is keeping your teen safe on the road. Segment 2 focuses on developing the knowledge and skills needed for safe driving. There’s no behind-the-wheel instruction required, but the course does culminate in a written exam. To pass, students are required to score at least 14 out of 20 questions correctly.
1. Classroom only: This format is typically scheduled over 3 days with a two-hour in-person classroom instruction each day.
2. Online + Classroom: Many of our Michigan locations offer a hybrid class format with 4 sessions, including 3 virtual two-hour classes and 1 in-person exam.

Michigan Driving Test FAQ’s

Individuals from out of the state or country:

Failure to provide the required documents at the time of the road test will result in a failed road test. No refunds will be issued to an individual who does not provide the required documents. Individuals under 18 will not receive a refund if a parent or guardian is not present at the time of the road test.
At our Ann Arbor facility, rental vehicles can be arranged for an additional fee. To secure a rental vehicle, you must select this option at the time of enrollment into the road test, or call All Star in advance of your road test to request a rental vehicle.
You must wait at least 24 hours before you can complete a second road test attempt. No refund will be issued to an individual who fails the road test for any reason.
A minimum of 48 hours’ notice must be provided if you wish to cancel or reschedule your road test. No refund will be issued to an individual who provides less than 48 hours’ notice to cancel or reschedule their road test. A 48-hour notice to cancel or reschedule may be provided via detailed voicemail or email. There is no refund due to an individual who does not show up for their road test.
