8-Hour Accident Prevention/Defensive Driver Course Important Details

Drivers 55 or older qualify for a discount on their personal car insurance through this program. It’s designed to be interactive, providing drivers with practical knowledge and techniques to prevent collisions and violations. With features like a defensive self-assessment risk survey, driving, and other key safety issues, this course empowers drivers to adopt safe, responsible, and lawful driving attitudes. Access this online program at your convenience, entering and exiting as needed. It will resume from where you left off, ensuring continuity in your learning process.

Under Minnesota state law, individuals aged 55 and older who complete a state-approved defensive driving course are eligible to receive a 10% discount on their car insurance for three years. For more information about your eligibility for discounts, contact your insurance agent.

The program consists of 18 modules that focus on various accident prevention topics which include reading and review, videos, diagrams, and a final exam. The maximum daily allotted time is 4 hours. The Final Exam can be accessed after 18 modules are completed. You will not have access to modules after the Final Exam is accessed.

Participants are allowed three attempts to pass the Final Exam, with a mandatory 24-hour waiting period between each attempt. The minimum passing score is 80%. To receive an insurance discount, you’ll need to provide proof of passing the All Star course. Once we’ve been notified of your passing, we will promptly provide you with the necessary documentation.

The Minnesota Accident Prevention Mature Driver 8-Hour Course is designed for licensed drivers aged 55 and older who are taking the course for the first time. After completing this course, participants can wait three years before taking the Refresher Course to continue their education and retain their benefits.
